The fourth grade students have been very busy studying the weather. From Hurricane Sandy to Blizzard Nemo, they have gotten a first hand look at extreme weather. As we continue our weather focus on clouds, students may try to take a crack at making their own weather predictions. Immigration was a fascinating topic! Not only did the children learn about their own heritage, but we had first generation immigrants come in to talk to us about their experiences of coming to America. These primary sources were very interesting to listen to, and the students really learned a lot. Our next unit in social studies will be economics. We have finished up our unit on informational writing, which the students really enjoyed. We are now reading and writing tall tales. The classes are writing hundreds of pages every day. (That’s a hyperbole, which is a trait of a tall tale.)
